Microsoft Azure Backup Server – Azure Subscription with spending limit

When you are using Microsoft Azure Backup Server and you have an Azure subscription with a spending limit, you may run into the following issue.

Assume you spend all your Azure credit and the spending limit kicks in. If this happens your Microsoft Azure Backup Server stops working and you get the following error message in the Azure Backup Server console.

In order for Microsoft Azure Backup to function properly, it is important to have an Active Azure subscription and network reachability to the Azure service. (ID 40007)

Microsoft Azure subscription has expired. All backups to disk an Azure are stopped. In order for Microsoft Azure Backup to function properly, it is important to have an Active Azure subscription and network reachability to Azure service. (ID 40005)

The important part is the sentence “All backups to disk an Azure are stopped.”. This means even your D2D backup does not work anymore until you remove the spending limit on your Azure subscription.

Your users are affected too, when you are using the Azure Backup server for client protection.
